What are the benefits from developing a website for my business?

What are the monthly costs for maintaining a website?
The monthly cost vary for each design company, a site hosting fee is charge for the actual space of the site. This is usually around $20 - $30 per month depending on how much space or how big your website is. There is a domain name fee, which is the www.yourname.com that customers use to access your website. This is a $15 - $60 charge per year based on the registrar company and the extension that you use. (Ex. .com/.biz/.net) The final part is the actual design charge, this usually a 1-time charge for the initial design of the site. Updates are usually billed on an hourly basis.
What is the average design charge?
Obviously every site is different, a site can cost anywhere from $100 all the way up into the thousands or hundred thousands. (Ex. Ebay/Google/MSN) The best way to to determine what the cost would be is to first determine what would be an acceptable budget for the website. Remember to think of it as another form of advertising. You want to be able to tell somebody to visit your website and feel confident that it is going to help them in any way possible.
Can I design my own site?
You can definitely design your own site, now days there are several software packages that have hundreds of templates to help design a website. But then the questions start to arise such as:
- Is it in your companies best interest in having you or a friend or relative create your website?
- Are you computer savvy enough to be able to convey your companies presence and image properly?
- Do you have the time to put forth in the hopes that it will be successful. Or would it be better to enlist the expertise of a established designer and marketing consultant?
What if I already have a website?
If you are not happy with your current website sometimes a simple makeover changes everything! Since all the information is already on the site, it will go much quicker than starting from scratch.
How long does it normally take to design a website?
The design timeframe usually depends on the size of the site. Simpler 2-5 page websites can often be up and running within 7-10 days. Some larger sites may take longer, although if you already have brochures and literature this will obviously save time. We also ask for your input while designing the site. The more input we get from you the better we are to satisfy your needs at designing a site that best represents your company!
How do customers find my website?
As you probably know; search engines like MSN, Google, Yahoo just to name a few, offer vast informational databases. When a website is created the designer places certain commands or codes in the website that the search engines look for. Search engines then go and and randomly search (spyder) any available websites for that particular code. You can submit to these search engines payment for higher placement in the listings. There are several companies that help with search engine placement.
